The Millers New Home

Back in 2018 I found this photo of Eunice and Kermit’s home around the time of their marriage. and posted of it in the blog https://themillergarden.weebly.com/blog/wedding-house.

I found it amazing that prior to their occupying it, it had sat vacant and used as a store house for wheat. This photo shows the back door, that one would enter into the mud room. The porch to the right later became the kitchen in which the carpenter built all the cabinets on site. Kermit and Eunice’s bedroom was added on the second floor at that time. But I’m sure the best upgrade came with the adding of electricity and running water.

Eunice and Kermit made this house their home. And even though she was not raised in this home, I’m sure Eunice had such a sense of ownership based on all the hard work she had done. I often think that she was the heart of that house.

While I was scanning negatives I cam across these two, which show the home at the same time but from a different perspective. I believe the photo on the Left is of the back also. The photo above ends at the entrance, and you can’t tell what’s next to the door. In the lower right corner though appears to be the cellar door.

I just love the front porch. You can see the barn in the background. I love In all the photos of the porch you can see the gingerbread style trim in the corners. So pretty. I know then they added on, they enclosed the front porch, but I really enjoy seeing it in these photos.

For me I find myself wishing that if I knew that the last time I visited this house was the last time, that I would have appreciated it more. But while I can’t go back, I sure am glad that I can appreciate it though these and other photos.

My Garden

I have grown up knowing I don’t have much of a green thumb. Nor have I had much of a desire to grow things. But several years ago I got a Christmas Cactus. I figured if I could keep it alive then I might be able to branch out into other plants. It’s grown so much I’ve had to re-pot it three times. This year has found my husband and I wanting to plant a garden. Now believe me we have tried in the past, and failed. But we decided that we were going to try one more time and so he made me some raised garden beds. We have to have raised beds because we have learned our dogs love the dirt and won’t stay out of a garden area. With a small yard, we can be more productive with a raised bed. And so our garden project has begun.

Now I am not sure what kind of garden Lydia or Kermit had planted but the blooms are very promising for a number of different vegetables.

But then when I was looking at photos this one up above was in my “not used” folder but seemed really familiar to me. For it’s just another angle to this garden this time without Kermit. I love how you can just see a vehicle there at the post. Not sure if it’s a car or a truck, but it could be anything! I like the flowers all around as well. I’ve been researching pollinating flowers and how you need them to attract the bees to help pollinate the vegetables.

It has been written that to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. We come from a long line of believers! While I will never have a garden as big as these photos, it’s nice knowing that I’m doing the same thing that many before me in our family have done as well. It’s never too late to start a garden of your own, even if it just starts with one plant.

2020 A Look Back

So excited to be back to working on my blogs! 2020 was quite the year. Most days when I’d sit down to work on my blogs, I’d be so overwhelmed by all the other stuff going on that I didn’t write much. But I still wanted to acknowledge what I did manage to publish in some way before moving on to all that I have planned for this year. One of the most exciting things is having all three of my blogs on one site. 

I hope that 2020 was good to you and that you have managed to be safe and Covid free. 2021 did not start off so great for Cris and I with testing positive for Covid. I would not wish this virus on anyone, so please please keep yourself safe.
